Hei!

I am Asier, student of ICT in Zubiri-Manteo. I have had the privilege of being able to conduct my job training in Finland, and here I will be narrating my experience from beginning to end!

The trip

On Wednesday, 2nd of March of 2016, our trip began from the airport in Loiu, at 6:45 AM. That was the time when we took our first flight of the day, which would leave us in Frankfurt. We stayed in the Frankfurt airport for four hours, which gave us enough time to grab something to eat and also explore the airport itself a bit. After the wait was over, we took our second and last flight of the day, which took us to Helsinki, Finland. After taking our luggage with us, we headed off and got on a taxi which brought us to the town where we'd be staying for the next three months: Lohja.
We did not do much that day other than asserting ourselves in our new apartments and buying something to eat, because we were pretty tired after 12 hours travelling around non-stop.

The first day

On the next day, we had arranged to meet up with Riikka, Luksia's international affairs coordinator. With the help of Emma, a student from Luksia who would also serve as our tutor, we set off to the Luksia campus where we'd be meeting with Riikka. There, she introduced us to Pablo, a student from A Coruña who would quickly become our friend by virtue of being Spanish and living close to us. Riikka then gave us a small presentation about Finland, showing us the Finnish traditions, manners and customs, which would help us get around in this cold country. After having lunch with her, we went back to the meeting room to introduce ourselves to those who would be our tutors, student helpers who were to guide us around town and help us with anything we may need. Once we got to know each other through a game Riikka proposed, we decided to meet up again, in a more informal manner, on Saturday.

After saying our goodbyes, we set off along with Pablo to explore the town. He had been here for around a week when we arrived, so he knew some of the places, and even took us to the lake, which was frozen and could be walked on. We decided to set off to the island through the lake, though hesitant to walk on ice at first, we quickly realized it was safe thanks to the Finn who walked ahead of us, so we kept walking until we got to the island. There we took a short stroll around, and finally walked back to the bridge that connects the mainland with the island. For the return trip, instead of going back through the lake, we walked along the lakeside path, and even saw some typical Finnish people taking a bath in the freezing waters of the lake then going to the sauna. It was a nice day, and we got a bit closer to knowing the town we were going to stay in.
